23 May 2008
The chairmen of DeutschlandRadio and Saarländicher Rundfunk (SR), Prof. Ernst Elitz and Fritz Raff, officially launched the new MW transmitter TRAM/P 400 on the 15.05.2008 in Heusweiler.
The project in Heusweiler consists of two TRAM 200 transmitters, a paralleling unit, an antenna tuning device, an equalization network (ENW) and a DRM DMOD2 functioning as a digital exciter for the TRAM 200 transmitters. The transmitter develops a carrier power of 400kW and a DRM power of 200kW. An equalization network (ENW) was implemented to eliminate the disadvantages of the asymmetrical antenna impedance and to reduce mismatch. As a result, the transmitted DRM signal achived a 1.8 dB mask reserve (see below).
The provider, DeutschlandRadio, transmits its program “Deutschlandfunk” on 1422 kHz through the broadcasting station of the SR in Heusweiler. The new TRANSRADIO transmitter offers an improved audio quality and a significantly higher efficiency compared to the old transmitter.
Mr. Raff, the Chairman of the SR said:”The new transmitter replaces a 35 years old transmitter. The medium wave transmitter in Heusweiler was an important component of a complete new radio concept of the Saarländischen Rundfunks and was unique for its time – the Europawelle Saar. The SR has worked successfully with DeutschlandRadio for 14 years. We would be pleased to continue this cooperation, if possible into the digital future of medium wave.
